The Association for Asian Studies Northeast Asia Council (NEAC) has available a number of Korea-related grants as a result of generous funding from the Korea Foundation. Grant applications must be received in the AAS Ann Arbor office by Thursday, October 1, 2009.
Grants are available in a number of categories, including North America or Korea research travel; Korea conference/seminar/workshop funding; Korea instructional materials; and the like. In the case of the North America and Korea research categories only, applicants must be current AAS members at the time of application.

This program is designed to promote Korean studies and foster young scholars in this field by providing graduate students majoring in Korean studies in North America with scholarships for their coursework and/or research while enrolled at their home institutions. It covers students only through the year that they are advanced to candidacy and only if they are in residence and not engaged in overseas research.

The Korea Institute at the Australian National University College of Asia and the Pacific is offering a two-year research fellowship focusing on any one of three possible fields of investigation: (1) the politics of Korea, with a focus on contemporary developments; (2) the economics of Korea, including Korea’s global involvement in multilateral issues; or (3) the security of the Korean peninsula within the East Asia context.
The fellowship is located in Canberra. The closing date for applications is October 1, 2009.

The Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Toronto invites applications for a teaching-stream appointment at the rank of lecturer/senior lecturer to teach Korean language effective July 1, 2010.
Successful applicants should have a minimum M.A. degree in Korean language with substantial experience and proven excellence in teaching Korean as a second language at the university level. Native or near native fluency is expected together with an excellent command of English. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The 10th Biennial Pacific-Asia Conference on Korean Studies 2010 (PACKS 2010) will be held November 24-November 26, 2010, at the University of Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand. Paper and panel proposals are invited from both established and junior scholars. Proposals from postgraduate students are also encouraged.
Proposals are welcome on topics related to Korea from a variety of disciplinary perspectives in the humanities and social sciences, including (but not limited to) history, linguistics, language pedagogy, literature, art, religion, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, political studies, economics, business, security, and migration studies. Special consideration will be given to papers and panels informed by a comparative perspective.
