This newsletter intends to show the study of environmental issues in Korea seen from two different perspectives by Argentinean researchers whose work was presented at the VII National Congress of Korean Studies conducted in November 2011 in the City of Buenos Aires.
The first  study case,  investigates the incredible biodiversity found in the demilitarized zone between North Korea and South Korea, while the second paper discusses the Korean government´s  speech about international negotiations regarding climate change.

We understand how important  the environmental issue has become globally, and we hope that more academics become interested in the matter in order to gain a better understanding of the changes we are experiencing, as well as  to collaborate in the decision making and the environmental policy development that are so necessary.

By Pablo Gavirati
East-Asian study group ( IIGG – UBA)

The environmental issue has lately been one of the topics of discussion internationally. It is a new reason to study, from Argentina, countries that appear as “distant” such as those located in the East-Asian region. The global climate change brings along the need to talk about it among different cultures, to enable complex negotiations that refer to modern societies’ economic interests. This brief article intends to analyze the position of the government of the Republic of Korea regarding this issue, synthethizing the results of a more extensive paperª, where two of the President’s speeches were analyzed.
